I know that it is a little early for New Year’s resolutions, but I had an opportunity to get a head start on one of mine today. First, I am going to make a concsious effort to take more pictures of my children. It seems like I have been so busy taking pictures of other people’s children that I have not felt like getting my camera out for my own. Two, I am going to embrace imperfection. I am not going to throw out all of the ones where I look bad, (I reserve the right to get rid of the REALLY bad ones though) are lousy snapshots, slightly out of focus to the naked eye, and well, just not my usual. My kids need to see themselves being kids, not perfect little portraits. I hope one day that they will thank me for the gorgeous portraits I have of them, but they need to see our real life too. Three, I will challenge myself more as a photographer. I tend to get lazy and shoot the same way, or process the same way… today, I challenged myself to shoot 100% manual and wide open. I found that I was much happier with what I got than when I get lazy and shoot in AV mode. And lastly, I am going to edit within 3 days of taking the pictures. I have so many pictures of my littles sitting in folders labeled, TO BE EDITED that will never see Photoshop. No more. Here is to a new year….
